I know, it's been a year or there about since my last blog.
It's been busy times at a new job, we boyght a new appartment last March ... A lit has happened.
The reason I decided to blog today is that yhis weekend I have been organizing my sewing supplies and I realized I miss this.
Since March I have had a sewing room. It was always a mrss and I have not finished a lot of projects since I hardly ever have time. However now we need that room for other stuff so I went to IKEA, found a bookshelf and got organizing.
This is the result and I love it.
I am goibg to add doors to the two small shelfs but leave the middle open.
Even if I have sew in the diningroom table from now at least I know where everything is and what I own.
Love it :)
I got a delivery from abroad and thought it was my Swan quilt. But it turned out to be my prize and ohhh my what a prize.
Feeling very proud and honored. I am thinking about using the fabric I got to make my next winning quilt. I look forward to knowing the theme for next's years show.
Are you kidding me? Yesterday my sister called me to let me know I got mail at her place (I lived there this summer) so I asked her to open it and take a picture and send to me. She just did and OMG I won a prize for my Swan in the moonlight quilt at the Open European Quilt Championship !!!!! Who would have thought. I am over the moon about it and right now it is quit large I understand :)
So I won 2nd in Novice. What a great honor this is and what a great start of the day :)
This is my project tonight. I don't know (and doubt) if I will finish it tonight.
But hopefully soon :) Look forward to sharing when I finish.
Yesterday after work I made this dress for my daughter. She loves dresses and all her dresses were getting too short so I made this one and I am planning on making another :)
This morning I was in front of the University of Iceland at 6:30 am sharp.
A group of people meet there every week on Wednesdays for a 40 min workout.
I survived my first time and loved it. Everyone was so nice, encouraging me on and giving me high five all the way :)
When I was on my last lap and totally finished I looked up and the Hallgrím's church was surrounded by purple light is was so beautiful. I finished the workout and from the car when I was leaving I took a picture on my phone, it is not very good, but you can still see a little of the purple.
Today is very windy but was okay, with the right people and the right mindset I can do it and I can't wait to go again at Friday, then we meet at Hallgrim's church.
Just as my Plover cushion returned from a show yesterday. Today was time to send my Swan in the Moonlight off to the Netherlands for a show there.
It has been a long process and I have loved every step.
Earlier this year I saw an ad for the Open European Quilt Championships 2016. I looked into it and found out everyone can summit a quilt and that there are a few categories. The one I was interested in was this years theme championship and the theme is "20" since this is the 20th Championship.
So it all started with trying to design a pattern.
After thinking about it a drawing some ideas for a few day I started to set up the picture. One day at the waiting room at the doctors I made this sketch on my iPhone.
By this point I had decided how it should look. Now it was just a matter of my abilities as a quilter. I am relatively new quilter so I did what I had recently learned. If I was starting now I would make it differently but I am still happy with the result.
I used my enviroment as inspiration and at a trip to Yamaguchi I saw a Swan I used as a model for my quilted Swan.
At a trip to Hajidamu I took some pictures of trees I had in mind while making the applique for the tree in the quilt.
The fabric I used I got from FatQuarterShop in the US. I tried to use some contrasting colors to give it depth. When I had all the pieces where I wanted them I had to do some quilting. With so many leafs the quilting took its time. I asked my quilting group on Facebook for advice and almost everyone agreed with me. What do you think?
Finally I decided I would finish it off with facing instead of a binding.
I used my clips from the 100 yen (dollar) shop from Japan :)
So here it is ...
I have had some help on the way, specially from my top helper Margret.
My Swan in the moonlight.
Now somewhere on its way to the Netherlands. Too bad I can't join it and go to the show myself :)
Today my Golden Plover Cushion returned home form a show in the UK.
I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet. I don't think I would like it in my living room, simply because I don't trust my husband and daughter to treat it good enough ;)
Is anyone interested in it? or the pattern?
Just send a message to me on facebook or in the comments below.
I love this cushion but it needs more love than I can give it :)
Now I am working on finishing another quilt I am sending for a show. This time in the Netherlands.
I am finishing this one up with a facing instead of a binding. I hope to finish tonight so I can send it off tomorrow morning.
Few days ago I heard about a group that meets twice a week at local landmarks here in Reykjavik for morning exercise. They meet up at 6:30 am no matter the weather or if it is a holiday or what ever. I liked the idea. In the end of the interview the person responsible said it is no excuse to be unfit, "First I will get fit then I will start working out with this group", that's not how it works, she said come to our exercise meeting do it and get fit :)
So this morning I was very responsible, got up at 6 am ate half a banana and off I went. The weather is not really nice this morning but at least it's not raining (or snowing). But when I got there I was no one. WAHT!! They said it didn't matter how the weather is, someone always shows up. Well not this morning. So I did my own little exercise. I used the stairs and then ran around the house and back down in circles a few times. When I got home I did my stretches and went online to try to google this group.
Well I found them and they meet up on Wednesdays and Friday ;)
So now I just have to go again on Wednesday :)
