Yesterday and today have been so much fun.
Yesterday was my birthday, I turned 33, which can't be true since I just turned 18 but whatever.
The day started with a fun cycling tour around the neighborhood looking at the beautiful autumn colors. I updated the look on my blog and facebook page with pictures taken that morning.
Next was time for physiotherapy. My Achilles' tendon has been injured for few weeks now. They are swollen and hurt like hell but I think it's finally getting better.
On our way home we stopped for lunch at one of our favorite fast food restaurant, Coco ichiban :) There you can have any kind of Japanese curry/rice you can think of. This is what we had:
When we were driving home we got a phone call telling us ny sewing machine was ready and we could pick it up. What joy !!!!
My to-do list is getting so long I can't wait to start on it :)
When Margret was home from kindergarten I opened a few presents. It is always so much fun.
So the night ended as a movie night with icelandic Licorice, my favorite :)
Today is Halloween and we went trick or treating for the first time. Since we have a similar festival in Iceland, only in the spring we don't really do trick or treating there. But it was so much fun. We all dressed up and Margret loved it.
Some kids asked if I was Elsa from Frozen.
So it was time to get new shoes and yesterday I finally bought new ones.
These were my old ones. Bought in Tokyo in May 2014 and totally ruinned :)
Just what I love in sneakers, black, comfy and a hint of pink :)
Since my calfs are still bothering me and I have to go to the physiotherapist 3 times a week I think it was a good idea to buy shoes that won't keep hurting my feet :)
When you have a three year old there is always something new going on. These days Margret is very keen on putting on her new Olaf shoes on without any help. That resulted in a lot of correcting when she put them on the wrong way. But now I have found a solution to help her put the right shoe on the right foot ...
Now she starts by lining up the FISH I draw in the shoes and problem solved. No more "krummafótur" 😀
The icelandic word KRUMMA-FÓTUR, literally means Raven-foot. It is used for when you put your left shoe on you right leg and right shoe on the left:)
It is strange not to have my sewing machine here. Everything I could do that comes to mind are different kind of sewing projects. But I had a baby quilt I had to finish, the binding was the only thing left...it's the most boring job of making a quilt. But now it is finished :)
When I needed a break I started some Christmas cards. I can't believe it's already time for Christmas shopping and making crafts and so on. Here are some examples:
On our shoppingtrip last Saturday Margret chose a fabric with one of her fave cartoon charaters, Anpanman. I was not sure what to do with it but yesterday I got inspired and made this Bread "basket"
The one on top was a present from my mother-in-law last Christmas and that is were I got the idea from. Margret's birthday is in the beginning of November and this year we are giving her a birthday party. Last year we didn't know anyone here so we just had a fun day the three of us. Now I am planning a party for her and we will deffinetly use tjis basket for some cookies or sonething like that :) Now she used it for the food for her dolls since she has become a really responsible mother in the last weeks, taking very good care of all her dolls and teddy beard. It's a good thing this "basket" can be washed ;)
Today when I was working on the wall hanging for my sewing room/living room this morning my sewing machine broke down.
Now I won't be able to finish the wall hanging this week. It had to be sent away for repair and they don't know how long will take to fix.
Now I guess I'll have to use my time solely for studying!!!!
As you can see, my sewing room/living room is not very colorful or homey. We have some family photos on the walls but other than that nothing. SO I am making myself a wall hanging. This is not the wall hanging I wrote about few days ago, the one I am practicing for, that one is a gift and I am waiting for the pattern to be printed :) Until I get that I am busying myself with this wall hanging.
Last night I managed to make 5 dark stripy blocks and this morning I made 2 light colored blocks. I hope I can finish the 2 light blocks I need tonight and then it is just a matter of making the applique on top :)
Then of course I have to make the back, find a batting, decide on quilting and the of course the most boring job, binding :)
But I think I can have it finished by the weekend.
Last week I was so lucky to be able to take part in a Kimono fitting practice. Two Japanese women I did not know before that needed someone who can speak English to practice with. One of them is learning to help people to dress in Kimono and teaching them to do it themselves (it is not easy let me tell you!!!!). She wants to be able to teach foreigners and therefore wanted someone who can speak English. I met them around 10 am and then the lesson started :)
Because I am "a bit" taller and curvier than most Japanese women the Kimono did not fit me, it was too short and too tight. I thought it was suppose to be this tight, but they said it was just because it was too small for me. If we do it again they are going to try to get a bigger one and then I am going to try to do it myself!!!
BUT after standing for 90 minutes to get dressed and then being in this tight kimono I almost fainted when we went outside to take the pictures and had to hurry upstairs again and change so we didn't get pictures of the back :( But now I know how it is suppose to fit and I can make it less tight next time :)
What a wonderful day and it is always so much fun to meet new people, specially as nice and these ladies :)
A big thank you :)
On Sunday Margret and I joined our friends for a harvest of our soya beans. It was so much fun. We quikly took care of the harvesting and then we just had so much fun :)
We all ate lunch together and then the kids played together. Margret had so much fun (me as well of course), and when we got home she was so tiered and we just went to bed early :)
