My farthest walk this month :)
I have never walked past this bend but I did today.
All in all a very good walk in great weather and maybe I will manage to match the distance I walked in April.
Today we are going on a day trip with Margrets kindergarden.
We are very excited :)
I have prepared bento boxes for us for lunch and everything is packed and ready.
Like a have written before I want to use the next year to improve myself. One of the things I want to do is to become a better seamstress. My mind is alwas working on some ideas of what I want to make. When I am walking, cooking, cleaning, name it my mind is going round and round about some design or idea.
In sewing like other things, like cooking and knitting, I like recipies okay but I love to change them with my little ideas and making them my own. I always have to change something. I also like to make up my own designs but it is hard for me because I am not mych of a drawer. I draw like a six-year-old (and write as well).
So what can I do about it? I can practice! I am going to watch videos on Youtube on drawing and skeching and then practice. It will be the first thing I focus on.
This is an idea I came up with today. On Friday we have a school trip with the kindergarden and we need a picnic blanket. I want it to be waterproof so I bought a 'leisure sheet' at the 100 yen store. But that is so boring so I am going to use tomorrow to turn it into a beautiful, waterproof, quilt to use for picnics :)
As you can see the sketch is not that great even if it does what it has to do but it would be more fun to be able to make it mire detailed and beautiful :)
I will share some pictures when I make better sketches :)
I just finished a japanese lesson.
This week (and last week) I was learning to count! I find it a bit difficult since in japanese you use diffrent words for diffrent things.
It is easy to learn the basic number words, they make a lot of sence. You learn one to ten and then its just "ten one" "ten two" ... then twenty is "two ten" and so on.
But it gets difficult because in japanese the words change for diffrent things like I said.
For thin things you use diffrent word than for person or dog or small things or bottle or food !!!!
So now I am trying to remember the diffrent endings to the numbers apropriate for diffrent things. I will get ... Someday ;)
To make it even more difficult every number has a kanji (japanese character), but I think I got those by now :)
But when you know the numbers it is easy to use them to learn how to talk about time for example.
Another thing they use the numbers for are the months. January is 一月 (ichi gatsu) which is just one month. Fenruary is 二月 (ni gatsu) which is two month. And on it goes. That makes it easy to learn the months :) The dates are a diffrent matter. Just like in English or Icelandic when you say first, second, or fyrsti, annar. It is also diffrent in Japanese and I am still learning to say it correctly.
So my next few days will look like this:
... it just started!
I have only walked 33 km in May, that is not good enough. I have to step it up.
This month has been a bit weird. With the workers fixing the floor at home and alot of sick days and doctors visits, I just havent had the opertunity to take as many long walks as last month. But now the workers are finishing today and Margret is feeling better so it's back to normal.
I just finished a long walk and am thinking of taking another after lunch. The Icelander in me always thinks: I have to use this good weather to enjoy being outside. Like it wont be this hot (and hotter) until October or November!!! But I love it, taking walks in this green heaven, with sun shining and the temperature above 20!! I think the people here find me a bit odd, always taking walk in the heat :)
What a week.
With the workers here fixing the floors it has been a bit of a crazy week. On top of that we have had medical checks and some sceduling conflicts but it all worked out and now the weekend is here, again :)
We havent planned anything for the weekend, we are just going to wing it and see what happens. I might even get some sewing done, that would be so great.
Now that our lives are falling back into routine (routine is the best isnt it?) I am trying to make a more detailed plan for the next year. Now it is for sure that we will stay another year. With Siffi at work and Margret at kindergarden I need a scedule to fill my days so I wont just waist this year away. When will I ever get a whole year for myself (mixed with the duties of a housewife of course) to do as I please? Never! There are some things I want to work on to improve myself and enjoy myself in the process:
1. Learn japanese.
I really want to be able to have a conversation with my japanese friends. Not about something complicated just normal friend chat.
To be able to do this I need to plan for some studying. I already have a japanese class once a week but that is not enough if I dont oractice in between. So 3 mornings a week I will study for at least 3 hours. I will study some evenings and try to get a speaking practice with Siffi in the evenings and at weekends :)
2. Improve my health.
As I have mentioned before it is important that I take better care of myself. I had a medical check yesterday and apart from being overweight (which I knew of course) I have slightly high cholesterol and I have little blood (nothing new there). So I need to watch what I eat. It is difficult however, to get more Iron (to fix the too little blood problem) I need to eat for example red meat, but to lower my cholesterol I should stay clear of red meat!! But neither problem is that serius so I just have to cut back on sweets as I have been doing, eat more fruit and vegetable, as I have been doing and continue to excersise regularly. The cholesterol level should go down as I loose more weight and if I eat healthy I will get more iron. To keep track of what I eat I am going to keep a food diary on myfitnesspal.com and do it more detailed than I have been doing.
Regarding excersise I am just going to continue what I have been doing, a hour long walk at least 5 times a week and the gym twice a week. This I enjoy and I think that is the most important thing, to enjoy your excersise and no torture :)
3. Improve my sewing skills.
I really want to become a better seamstress. I want to be able to make myself and Margret some clothes that look good. I also want to learn more about quilting. I am going to set myself some tasks and record my improvements here on the blog. I will use every option to find tasks, from what I need around the house to gifts and so on :) in a year I should be able to improve some :)
On top of all this there is still one thing that is the most important thing to me. My family. This opportunity comes with another gift. Since I have so much time on my hand I can finish most of my housewife duties AND still have time to do the above before I pick up Margret at kindergarden. So I get to spend more quality time with her doing something we enjoy doing, instead if doing housework with her in the way and neither if us enjoying it that much :)
I have so much to be thankful for and look forward to ... And of course I will share it with you here :)
Breakfast for Siffi and Margret ready :)
I am trying to make onigiri (rice balls) myself. I will try diffrent kinds for the next days. Lets see how it goes :)
